Doubletree Pittsburgh Airport: My Favorite Park and Fly Hotel

Sharing is caring!

We live in an area where the two closest major airports are approximately 80 miles away (an hour and a half in Ohio terms). Because of this, we often look for park, sleep, and fly hotels, especially when we have an early morning flight. One of our favorite park and fly hotels is the Doubletree Pittsburgh Airport.

Dennis and I have stayed at the Doubletree at least three times in the last two years and are planning to stay again before our next trip. Since we rotate between three different cities (Cleveland, Akron-Canton, and Pittsburgh) for flights, this is quite a few times for us. Actually, we’ve stayed there every time we’ve flown from Pittsburgh since we got married.

There are several hotels near Pittsburgh Airport, and many of them advertise Park and Fly packages. So, why do we keep going back to the Doubletree Pittsburgh Airport? There are several reasons.

1. Convenience

The Doubletree Pittsburgh Airport is located at 8402 University Boulevard in Moon, Pennsylvania. It’s only five miles from the Pittsburgh International Airport. We take I-376 West (old Route 60) to exit 57. Turn right onto University Boulevard at the second traffic signal. The Doubletree by Hilton will be on the left after approximately half a mile.

2. The Shuttle

The Doubletree Pittsburgh Airport is one of the few park, sleep, and fly hotels near the Pittsburgh International Airport that has a 24 hour shuttle. For our last trip, we had a 2:30 a.m. wake up call and scheduled the shuttle for 3:30 a.m. for our 5:17 a.m. flight to Orlando. The trip to the airport was less than 10 minutes. This worked well since the check-in lines were longer than we expected. They were so long that we used the kiosk instead. The TSA Precheck line wasn’t even open–it opened at 4:07 a.m. when we were almost to the front of the regular airport screening line. We still got to our gate 20 minutes before our first leg, Flight 468 to Charlotte, boarded at 4:47 a.m.–just enough time to walk around, but not enough time to visit the Sky Mall (luckily the shops weren’t open yet).

On the return trip, customers just need to call the provided number. The shuttle picks up right outside the baggage claim. On this trip, our plane came in late, so we added another night at the Doubletree on the way home.

3. The Food

Wilma greeted us and checked us in on this trip. She gave us warm cookies, the perfect snack. Since we had come directly from Dennis’s office, it was dinner time. After we took the bags to our room, we came back down to have dinner at Jacksons Restaurant.

We decided to sit at a table in the bar area of the restaurant with its stainless steel table tops. Christie was our waitress. We chose our meals from the bar menu, but the dinner menu was also available. Dennis had the All-American burger with a cup of chicken chowder and a Coke. I had the Chipotle lime shrimp tacos with water to drink–I swear it was the same meal I ordered before our Puerto Rico trip in April 2017! It was delicious both times!

I love that the Doubletree Pittsburgh Airport has such a wonderful restaurant. It’s so nice not to have to leave the hotel once we arrive.

4. The Rooms

We usually book a king room if it’s available. The rooms at the Doubletree Pittsburgh Airport are large and have all the amenities that we require. There is always bottled water and a coffee maker in the room. This is great for early morning flights–I’ll make a cup of tea and take it with me on the shuttle.

The picture shows a king size hotel bed with white sheets and comforter. There are four pillows and a bedside stand with a lamp.

5. The Parking

We have never had a problem leaving our car at the Doubletree Pittsburgh Airport. If you’re leaving a vehicle, the staff asks that you park in the larger area to the right of the hotel. This lot is well-lit. The longest we’ve left our car was ten days. Just remember to lock up and leave your license number with the front desk. When making your reservation, you can book directly through Doubletree by Hilton or through a third party site like www.hotels.com or www.parksleepfly.com. Be sure to book your room early–this hotel does fill up!

Let me know if you’ve stayed at the Doubletree and what you thought!

  1. Love finding a good place where you know you can count on its quality and service whenever you are in the area. We’ve stayed in at least one Doubletree and enjoyed our visit. I’m sure we will again at some point. That food, though – nom-nom.

  2. Wow…the amenities are endless! I always like the option for a shuttle to and from the airport.

  3. Convenience is the key and this hotel seems to live up to it. I love double trees. They are always clean and comfy. Great about the shuttle too, added bonus!

  4. I’ve found Doubletrees to be consistently good – I love the idea of park and stay – my parents do that often when they fly out of Chicago.

  5. 80 minutes? Wow! We are lucky to have one airport 60 minutes away, but our further airport (and usually cheaper) is also 80 minutes. We’ve also found that these park stay and fly hotels work out great!!

    1. I know, right? We’re staying there again in March, and I can’t wait. This time I plan to try something new from their menu. The pizzas looked fantastic!

  6. I am a fan of Doubletree hotels. I think they are a great combination of convenience and comfort!

    1. There are several near the Pittsburgh Airport that have shuttles. The problem is that only a few are 24 hour ones. Most of them seem to run from 6 a.m. until midnight. We do love the Doubletree.

  7. I’m so glad you’ve found a hotel that works for you. Nothing worse when you’re traveling than to worry about stuff you need to sort out before you actually travel.

  8. Oh I’ve never been there nor anticipate going but you never know! Life has a funny way of giving us surprises. I’ll keep this in mind for if and when I head that way 🙂

  9. I have never been to pittsburgh but my boss at my full time job was born and raised there. Those tacos look BOMB. I need them in my belly ASAP!!!

  10. The warm cookies alone make a hotel a notch up for me! I think it would score points with my boys too. If I ever need a place near here, this will be it. Thank you for sharing

  11. I am much like you, convience is everything for me. I think Doubletree is a nice hotel. We’ve stayed at several Doubletree’s several times and never had an issue.
