Oga’s Cantina at Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Our Review

Sharing is caring!

On Christmas Day, Dennis and I stumbled across a line for Oga’s Cantina in the Black Spire Outpost of Disney Hollywood Studios Star Wars Land. Not being huge Star Wars fans (blasphemy to some, I know–especially our boys), we weren’t sure what the line was actually for at first. After talking to a cast member, we learned that Oga’s Cantina was a bar that served fun drinks and snacks. Despite the fact that it wasn’t even 10 a.m., it was Christmas, so we decided to try the cantina out.

Oga’s Cantina

Atmosphere

After a short wait, a server led us to our assigned place and told us the rules. Each party had a strict 45 minute time period to order, consume food and drinks, soak up the atmosphere, and pay. There was also a two drink maximum per person. You were not allowed to wander around the cantina; patrons had to stay at their assigned spots. And, when I say, spot, I don’t necessarily mean seat. Our spot involved standing at a long, skinny table along with six strangers. Oga’s Cantina does have tables that people can sit at; however, I think you would have needed a reservation (and maybe a larger party) to get one. Seating is also available at the bar, but it was full when we entered.

The decor really made you feel like you were in a galaxy far, far away. It’s very dark inside, and there were all sorts of interesting machines and creatures. The bar lights up and gives drinks an other-worldly feel.  DJR-3x, otherwise known as Rex, is your droid DJ, spinning fun techno tunes.

DJR-3x spins the classic cantina band songs while you enjoy your repast.

Breakfast Menu and Snacks

The menu is unique, to say the least. The limited breakfast options consisted of Rising Moons Overnight Oats and the Mastafarian Lava Roll. The couple next to us had the oats, and they did look delicious, especially with all the fresh fruit on top. The lava roll is a warm cinnamon roll topped with Oreo cookie crumbs and “lava” icing.

In addition to the breakfast offerings, two snacks were available–Batuu Bits and Oga’s Obsession. I was tempted to try Oga’s obsession. It consisted of Odwalla lemonade cotton candy flavor, blueberry popping pearls, and a dried fruit mixture. I do love cotton candy (check out EPCOT’s artisan cotton candy), but it seemed a little sweet for me that early in the morning.  We opted to share the Batuu Bits, a crunchy snack mix of freeze dried veggies and chips along with a garlic dip.

The Batuu Bits were good, but they weren’t really large enough to share.  We had fun trying to figure out what the different “bits” were, discovering carrot chips, green beans, lotus root, fried seaweed and more (okay, okay, we did have to ask about a few of them). For some reason, I was expecting a warm dip, but this was cold. I’m not sure if we would order the Batuu Bits again.  They were rather expensive for what you received, even taking Disney prices into consideration.

Drinks

Now, the drinks–those were fun and exciting! Oga’s Cantina is known for out-of-this-galaxy drinks.  I wish we had come later in the day and that we had other adults with us. Oga’s Cantina offers a wide variety of both non-alcoholic and alcoholic concoctions, so many that it was hard to choose. I settled on the Fuzzy Tauntaun, while Dennis ordered the Carbon Freeze.

The Fuzzy Tauntaun is made with peach vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice with tangerine, pure cane sugar, and “buzzz” foam. What I didn’t know and therefore wasn’t expecting is that the buzzz foam makes your mouth go numb. It was an interesting drink, but I think I will try something different the next time, especially if it’s early in the day.  Want to try the fuzzy tauntuan at home? Try this copycat recipe.

Dennis’s Carbon Freeze was awesome! It was made with lemon lime Powerade and had strawberry, blueberry, and green apple popping pearls. Somehow, it magically bubbled. It was the coolest drink ever! Even better, it was non-alcoholic, so even young Star Wars fans could enjoy it.  When we go back, and we will, the carbon freeze is on my list of drinks to order.

So, how much did this side-trip to Oga’s Cantina set us back?

Okay, first, it was Christmas. Second, we don’t buy gifts for each other. Instead, we travel. That being said, Oga’s Cantina was not cheap. The Bantuu Bits were $11.00, my Fuzzy Tauntaun was a whopping $16.00, and Dennis’s Carbon Freeze was a mere $7.50.  Our total bill, before tip, was $36.75. A bit high for a small snack and two drinks, but it is Disney.

Know Before You Go

Oga’s Cantina is popular with Star Wars fans. It’s a great place to soak up atmosphere and to escape the brutal Florida sun. Reservations are recommended and can be made on the Disney website 180 days in advance.  Oga’s Cantina does not accept the Disney dining plan, nor does it offer any discounts at this time, including annual passholder discounts.

Final Thoughts

Even though Oga’s Cantina was expensive, we will definitely go back at some point. I’d like to make a reservation to go with other adults one evening. It could really be a lot of fun.

  1. My husband is a huge Star Wars fan, so this would be a must-see part of a visit to Disney. The rules seem a bit much though. Like get your sh*t and get out kind of thing. Did you feel that way, or did they make more sense to you? I would want to walk around in there and really experience everything. That would be the major drawback for me.

    1. It was crowded, so I could see the need for the rules. However, I did want to explore more!

  2. The fact that the foam makes your mouth numb would DEFINITELY throw me off right off the bat! While the drink sounds AMAZING (I need to give it a try), knowing that going into it will help a lot, I think. Takes away the unexpected surprise of it all lol

I’m not a huge Star Wars person, but my husband is and wants to visit Star Wars land some day. It’s definitely on our list of ‘must-see’ places.

  3. This is interesting, as I’ve never been to Disneyland yet. The atmosphere looks cool and the food/ drinks you wrote about sound really delicious. It’s an experience for sure. However, the strict timeline and not being able to walk around would put me off a bit. I like to take my time when eating, but it sounds like an enjoyable place to have a drink.

  4. Looks pretty interersting. I like Star Wars so it must be pretty exciting for a lover of series. Thanks for photos it’s pretty close to being there. The whole experience must be pretty fun

  5. Haven’t been to DisneyWorld for a few years but we visited Disneyland last year in June just before Star Wars opened. There were no crowds since everyone was waiting for the big attraction to open the following week but we just missed checking it out. It’s definitely on our list!

  6. I love how detailed your disney reviews always are. I’ll definitely check out you blog before my next disney trip, and Oga’s Cantinas is a must try for us. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I’d be kind of bummed out that I couldn’t walk around. I think the best part would be seeing all the cool stuff around the bar. Maybe once it calms down a bit in years to come they will be more flexible with that rule. In all honestly the drink prices aren’t too bad but maybe that’s because I live in NY and those seem about normal to me. As my wife always says, you’re on vacation don’t think about it. I can’t wait to see Star Wars land one day.
