During the summer I’m always on the lookout for new books to add to my classroom library. This year, one of the ones I decided to purchase was Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo. I hadn’t read much about the book, but someone recommended it on a Facebook teachers group I follow saying it was a great book with diverse protagonists. As I’m always looking to expand my students’ horizons and to create empathy for all types of people, I thought it would be worth buying.
Are you ready for my June reading list? It’s now halfway though the year, and I’ve managed to keep track of every book I’ve finished so far this year. I’m actually pretty impressed–I’ve never been able to do that before.  June is my time for relaxation and rejuvenation after a long, hard school year. It’s always a great time to read. This month was a little busier than normal (more about that in a bit), but I still was able to add 15 books to my June reading list.Â
How it all began
I started the month in Denver, awaiting the arrival of our fifth grandchild. Dennis and I drove out together, but he had to fly home on May 28. Little Oz was born on June 3. While in Denver, I read, played lots of board games with J.R., and blogged. Meghan hogged Oz, so I didn’t get quite enough cuddles to last until I see him again. I left Denver on the 10th, stopping in Kansas and Missouri, before arriving home on the 13th. Along the way, I visited the Moon Marble Company in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
And how it ended
Remember how June was supposed to be quiet and relaxing? It really wasn’t. I got home on Thursday and packed for a weekend camping trip. On Friday, at the campground, the kids surprised me with my belated 50th birthday present: a new puppy named Pennsylvania. And somehow, that little puppy took over my life. I really didn’t get much done the last two weeks of the month. I definitely didn’t read as much as I had at the beginning of June. Anyhow, here is my June reading list!
