Disney’s Liberty Tree Tavern Dinner Review

Sharing is caring!

Looking for a delicious dinner at Walt Disney World? Check out the Liberty Tree Tavern, located in the Liberty Square section of Disney’s Magic Kingdom park.  We’ve had dinner there several times over the years, and it never disappoints.  Our latest feast was on Christmas Eve, during the busiest time of year. Being a party of two on this trip, our experience may vary somewhat from that of larger groups.  If you are deciding whether to choose this restaurant for your upcoming trip, please keep reading to learn more about our visit.

Visiting the Liberty Tree Tavern for Dinner

After driving to the airport and flying to Florida on Christmas Eve, we were excited to get into the Magic Kingdom and enjoy the holiday ambiance. Since we knew we wouldn’t be spending the holiday at home with friends and family, we decided that a holiday feast would be in order. Dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern is the perfect feast–it’s traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas food that you would find in homes throughout America during this time of year.

Upon Arrival

Reservations are highly recommended if you want to dine at the Liberty Tree Tavern–at busy times of year, they are essential. Guest should arrive 15 minutes before their reservation time. When you enter, you will check in at the hostess station on your left. They will ask where you are from–this is so that when they call your party, they can announce “Hear ye, hear ye” with the name of your party and the “colony” you are from.  It’s a fun bit of theming, but if the waiting room is crowded, it can be hard to hear your host. Be aware that parties will be called from both sides. If you can, try to sit in the middle of the room, near the fireplace to be able to hear your party called.

Early American Decor

The Liberty Tree Tavern is decorated as an 18th century American eating establishment or stately home would be. The hosts and servers wear period costumes,  and reproduction artwork lines the walls. if you like history or visiting places like Colonial Williamsburg, you will feel right at home. While there are officially no restrooms in Liberty Square as there was no indoor plumbing in the 1700s, there are restroom facilities available for diners on the second floor. Unfortunately, while the restaurant is wheelchair accessible (through a side entrance near the Christmas store), the restrooms are not wheelchair accessible.

The Famous Liberty Tree Tavern Food

Dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern is an all you can enjoy feast, usually served family style. The Bill of Fare at dinner includes the Declaration Salad, Patriot’s Platter, dessert, and a beverage.

Dinner is $59.99 per person. If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, it’s a great use of a meal credit. If you aren’t on the dining plan, there is a 10% discount available for annual passholders.

Dinner includes certain beverages at no extra cost. These include coffee, tea, hot cocoa, white or chocolate milk, iced tea, Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, root beer, Sprite, apple juice, and light lemonade.  You can purchase specialty beverages at an extra charge. If you use the Disney Dining Plan,  you can order many of the specialty beverages as part of your dinner. These include the Patriot’s Slush, a frozen apple cranberry cherry concoction, and many varieties of beer and wine. I ordered the Warm Washington Cider, apple cider served warm and topped with Baker’s Creme.

Starters

We started with the Declaration Salad, tossed mixed greens with a house-made dressing. The honey shallot vinaigrette  is a wonderful blend of sweet and sour. If you’d like to try it at home, check out this copycat recipe.  We received individual portions of the salad. In addition to the mixed greens, our salads had grape tomatoes (Dennis picked his off and gave them to me), cucumbers, and red onion. I really enjoyed the salad–it was light and refreshing after a day of travel.

In addition to the salads, our server also brought us a platter of rolls and whipped butter. These were just as good as my mom’s homemade rolls (sorry, Mom).  We each savored one with our salad and saved the rest of the yeasty goodness to eat with our main course.

The Main Course

The Patriot’s Platter includes roasted turkey breast, pot roast, and oven roasted pork with mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, herb stuffing, and house-made macaroni and cheese.  While other families did receive these items in large bowls to be served family-style, we each received an individual plate with the meats, potatoes, green beans, and stuffing.  We also each received a small  bowl of cranberry relish. I love homemade cranberry relish, and Dennis was kind enough to give me his. It’s the perfect complement to the cornbread dressing. At our table, the macaroni and cheese was the only item other than rolls and gravy that came in a bowl to be shared. Our server also brought a boat of gravy to our table.

Dennis and I often swap food so that there is less waste. I gave him my turkey and he gave me his cranberry relish. Sure, we could have asked for more, but we didn’t need to–there was plenty at our table.

Liberty Tree Tavern’s Delicious Dessert

The Patriot’s Platter comes with the amazing Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. The base is a vanilla toffee cake with baked in Heath bar pieces and chocolate chips. The chefs top it with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, making it super rich and decadent! Luckily, I had a little room left and could slowly savor this divine creation.

Know Before You Go

I highly recommend that you make a reservation. You can make reservations on the Walt Disney World website or app up to 180 days before arrival. If you are staying on property, you can make reservations for your entire stay 180 days before the first day.  During busy times of the year like Christmas and spring break, you will not be able to just walk up and get a table. Children under 10 can order off the children’s menu, but anyone ages 10 or over pays the adult price.  Because the restaurant is in the Magic Kingdom,  you must pay or use  a pass to enter.

Final Thoughts

The Liberty Tree Tavern is a great place to have  sit-down meal at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. While expensive, you do get a lot of food and can ask for more.  The food is hearty and tastes like home-made. Even your grandma would approve! Try it out–you won’t be disappointed!
